Drone Pilot & Cartographer
Jess's passion for photography, technology, and maps, inspired her to attend college at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in the Fall of 2018. She graduated Cum Laude in December 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography and a specialization in GIS Technology and Cartography. She also obtained a certificate in UAS Science and Applications. As well as, becoming a USGIF Certified Geospatial Intelligence Analyst.
Jess has been an FAA Part 107 Commercial Remote Pilot (License #4347924) since January of 2020.
Today, Jess is a professional Geospatial Specialist that utilizes various geospatial technologies to produce high-resolution, survey-grade, 2D and 3D mapping products that are used within GIS, CAD, BIM, and other geospatial environments. Enhancing base maps, making informed decisions, and creating accurate designs, are just a few of the many areas in which they have extensive experience in. She has supported data collection across an array of industries including engineering, oil, gas, construction, transportation, and more. She has had the pleasure of working with Pennsylvania Shell Ethylene Cracker Plant, Sherwin William's Paint, Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, Indiana County Office of Planning and Development (ICOPD), PennDOT, W A Petrakis Contracting Company, the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County, the City of Uniontown, Carroll Township, the City of New Kensington, South Fayette Township, Derry Township Supervisors, Latrobe Municipal Authority, and more.
At Gibson-Thomas Engineering, Jess is the Drone Program Manager and primary drone pilot. She is responsible for managing project schedules, calculating budgets and cost-estimates, determining client needs based on project objectives, developing operational and flight procedures, coordinating with the FAA to obtain authorizations/waivers, carrying out flight operations in an efficient, safe, and responsible manner, data processing, data manipulation, and ensuring final output quality meets clients/project expectations.
